How Decorative Trim Can Transform A Home

It is no secret that adding additional trim to your home such as Crown Moulding and Decorative Casings can create a more finished and elegant feel in your home. But what happens when you go beyond just the basics? We have found that the more decorative trim you add to a space such as chair rail and picture frame trim, the more elegant your home becomes.

Erika with @mrserikaward did just that in the Fall of 2021. She took a room that had an enormous amount of potential and created something beautiful. Check out the project below.

The Plan

Erika took on three separate rooms in this challenge, her entryway, dining room, and great room. Her goal during this 8-week challenge was to unify her home’s design so that it not only reflected herself as a designer but also so that it would be consistent across the main floor. Taking on just one room in 8 weeks is a challenge, so choosing to take on three different spaces in her home was not going to be easy. Providing updates each week, Erika got to work on these spaces.

Products Used

Erika knew she was going to need some assistance with this expansive project. Transforming a space is not easy, but she knew exactly how to do it. When it comes to making a home more elegant, she knew she was in need of some decorative moulding.

When selecting her mouldings, Erika turned to Novo Building Products, the parent company to Ornamental Decorative Millwork. Needing both decorative pieces and boards for her accent wall, she got to work planing with her contractor and measuring out exactly what she needed for the space. All of the moulding products Erika used to create her home are below.

The Finished Space

After she received all of her moulding products, she and her team got to work.

“We used three different trim molding profiles to produce this grand gesture in our great room. I still can’t believe the transformation! It’s a wow-factor that stays with you. Trim is EVERYWHERE between the three rooms in this open floor plan but combining the farmhouse style trim work on the fireplace bump out makes it all feel more approachable.”

Items used include BASE CAP 163, OML43A-8FTPRIM, COVE 93, 1x6 finger joint, 1x8 finger joint, and 1x4 finger joint.
